This black ceramic honing rod is slightly longer and oval-shaped compared to the MAC’s rod. Contrary to common belief (and thanks to misleading cooking shows), honing rod is not to be used for knife sharpening (to sharpen a knife use sharpening stones). Honing rods are designed to straighten the blade, which significantly prolongs the sharpness of the knife’s edge.
